Simryn Gill has an international reputation, with her work represented in the Tate Gallery in London, Metropolitan Museum and the Guggenheim in New York, as well as the MCA, NGA and all state galleries in Australia.
In Surfacing, Gill has taken plaster casts of the interior voids of fruits, pumpkins and gourds, then stripped away the flesh, leaving enigmatic sculptural forms. Seen en masse, these works let us see what is normally hidden, the negative spaces becoming solid.
In other work, Simryn draws, prints and collages onto pages of old books, repeated shapes in different media, a cataloguing of colour - drawn, torn, or printed.
