Art and writing inspired by Connecting to Country in Sydney.
In this year’s Pathways program, Gardeners Road Public School engaged in a series of workshops with local Aboriginal Elders and educators who helped them explore knowledge and caring for Country on the lands on which their school is located, investigating local school areas, the lay of the land, plants, water and wildlife and introduced students to Aboriginal ceremony and storytelling through dance, yarning circles, art-making with natural ochres and nature as well as reflecting their experiences in writing.
Student’s learnings highlight their schools understanding and connection with their local Aboriginal community and Country and commitment to reconciliation. The artworks and stories are curated into an exhibition for the entire community.
The Pathways Program; Art and Storytelling as a pathway to reconciliation was supported by the City of Sydney’s Cultural and Creative Grants and Sponsorship program.
