Adventures in Yellow is the latest offering of paintings from visual artist David Kurzydlo.
With the bulk of work being completed from the unique position of two government imposed lockdowns within his studio in Newcastle, David was placed in the unprecedented situation of having virtually unlimited time to produce work for an exhibition to be shown on the completion of lockdown.
Instinctively he chose to revisit and complete the host of unfinished work stored in his home/studio. Abandoned for whatever reason, some of these works had not been seen by the artist himself for up to 13 years, some even begun before the artist completed his formal training in the subject. This has created the unique scenario where the time in between has become part of the media itself, with oils paint being the other. It is his first serious exploration of colour.
Born in Newcastle in 1977, David is a former medical illustrator who has shown extensively throughout Australia and also Berlin, New York and Los Angeles. He has been a finalist in numerous prizes, the latest being the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, the richest portrait prize in the world.
