Saturday 18 October from 10:30am to 1:30pm
In this practical, hands-on workshop, students will learn to create a rich tomato-based sauce and transform it into three flavour-packed classics: Italian Bolognese, Mexican-style Chilli Con Carne, and Indian Keema Curry.
This is a great opportunity for teens to boost their kitchen skills, explore global flavours, and walk away with recipes they’ll actually want to cook again.
This workshop is for 16–18 year olds (This is a drop-off workshop - parents do not need to stay).
In the kitchen, students will:
Learn about common base ingredients like onion, garlic, tomatoes, and spices
Build a versatile tomato sauce from scratch
Adapt the sauce into three unique dishes using herbs, spices, and key add-ins
Taste and compare all three variations over a shared lunch
Discuss what they learned about flavour, culture, and cooking
A portion of their favourite dish to take home
A printed recipe and tips guide
A stronger understanding of how to cook real meals from affordable ingredients
An apron
A lidded container to take food home
This workshop is ideal for young people starting to cook independently and wanting to build their confidence in the kitchen.
