Sunday 11 September 2022 from 2pm to 4pm
As the first non-Anglo Celtic church in Australia, this presentation will detail the 130-year history of St Michael's Melkite Catholic Cathedral in Darlington, commencing with the Melkite Catholic ecclesiastical presence from its early beginnings in the late 19th century, to the present day.
As a rich sanctuary of the Byzantine liturgical tradition that welcomed thousands of immigrants from Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and the Levant, the presenter's own family's migratory experience, like many others, was built on the foundation of this Cathedral.
The presentation will take place in the Cathedral followed by afternoon tea in the hall.
