Join us for an intimate series of music performances in one of the city’s most unique spaces, the hammock room at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Hyde Park Barracks. Originally housing convicts, the hammock room is steeped in history and personal stories.

Experience the hammock room in a different way as you listen to some of our best and brightest musicians in this intimate setting. Can music change the way a space makes you feel? And can a space change the way you interpret music?

Immerse yourself in an audiovisual experience with atmospheric lighting, projected imagery and surround sound. From the comfort of a hammock, soak up the sounds of some of Sydney’s most interesting and diverse artists exploring a range of genres.

Sunday 30 July: Electric Guitar, Jim Moginie

Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil) has focused his intuitive composing and masterly guitar-playing in a new work, ‘Murmurations’. Inspired by and named for a natural phenomenon that Jim witnessed in Ireland – the massive gatherings of starlings that occur during winter evenings – this quiet music, played live and completely solo, resounds with with ethereal tones that comfort and surprise.

Sunday 27 August: Percussion, Claire Edwardes and Bree van Reyk

Be swept away by Australian percussion legends Claire Edwardes OAM and Bree van Reyk as they explore the interplay between rhythm and silence. This one-off collaboration will weave a unique sonic tapestry unlocking the normally dormant acoustics of the mysterious Hyde Park Barracks hammock room.

Sunday 24 September: Violin, Véronique Serret

Véronique’s music blends loops, delays, reverbs and vocals to redefine the expression of the violin. Using both her acoustic and six-string electric violins, various percussive elements and field recordings, she orchestrates her ever-shifting landscape. Véronique merges sounds of old and new to create her flow, a nod to the past yet firmly planted in the present day.

Kick off the night with a drink from the Archie Rose Distillery Co bar in the Hyde Park Barracks courtyard between 5pm-6:30pm before heading up into the hammock room.
