In Conversation: Gerwyn Davies with Hamish Sawyer

Where
UNSW Galleries
UNSW Galleries
Corner of Oxford Street and Greens Road, Paddington NSW 2021
When

Thursday 18 March 2021 from 6pm to 7pm

Join us for drinks and a conversation with Gerwyn Davies in conjunction with the exhibition 'Plush'.

Gerwyn Davies’s photographs explore the expression of camp as an aesthetic strategy in photographic self-representation. Hear from the artist in conversation with curator and writer Hamish Sawyer as they discuss camp as a performative and aesthetic intensification applied to images and the image-making process itself.

Hamish Sawyer is a Brisbane-based independent curator and writer. In 2020 he curated ‘Marian Tubbs: we need privacy guys here too' at the University of Sunshine Coast Art Gallery. Sawyer has held positions at Caloundra Regional Gallery, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Institute of Modern Art and Milani Gallery. He is a regular contributor to publications including ‘Art Monthly Australasia’ and ‘VAULT’.

This program is presented in conjunction with the exhibition 'Gerwyn Davies: Plush' at UNSW Galleries from 13 March – 17 April 2021.
