Every day, 10:30am to 3:30pm Friday 6 September to Sunday 8 September
Welcome to Looking Forward Looking Back 2024! Three Days in September is a tribute to showcase the life of Henry Lawson.
We celebrate Henry Lawson, one of Australia’s greatest bush poets and writers, who died in Sydney, aged 55. He was the first Australian writer to be granted a state funeral.
On Friday 6 September we kick off with a Poets Breakfast in the Dusk Club at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel, 294 Pitt Street Sydney. Phil Inn will lead us at the poets breakfast starting around 10:30am. This will be a day filled with nostalgia and excitement. The $100 donation for those that can afford it is to offset the cost of booking the Dusk Club and covering the cost of the food. All other parts of the three-day event are free.
At 2pm, we will travel to the Waverley Cemetery where Phil Inn will lead the graveside reflections.
On Saturday 7 September we travel to Henry Lawson Cave at Willoughby and soak up the atmosphere as you reflect on the beauty of the space and enjoy hearing participants read or recite their favourite piece of Lawson literature.
Finally, on Sunday 8 September, we gather at Circular Quay to travel across beautiful Sydney Harbour to Manly to have lunch by the seaside and visit another spot from Henry past that inspired his work.
Whether you're reminiscing or eager to see the future, this event is for you. Get ready to connect with like-minded individuals, enjoy engaging in discussions, and maybe even make new friends along the way. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to hear about Henry Lawson and reflect on the contribution he made to Australia. See you there!
