This event is offered as part of the Australian Heritage Festival 2024. The theme for the festival is ‘Connections.’ Take this opportunity to connect with the City Archives’ vast collection of historical images. Then connect with your creativity to produce your own jewellery!

Led by experienced facilitators in the Darling Square Library makerspace, this workshop is a great introduction to laser-cut jewellery and the City of Sydney Archives.

You’ll be guided through how to access historical images from the City Archives to personalise your own laser-cut jewellery design. We will be inspired by the beautiful architectural features of the Town Hall, including the beautiful tile work, stained glass and stone masonry.

You’ll learn how to personalise a range of fun jewellery templates using our library of archival photographs to make a pair of earrings or two pendants. Once you’re happy with your final design, we’ll laser cut and etch it for you. You’ll receive your design during the class and can add the hooks, clasps or cords to make it wearable.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to access photographs in the City of Sydney Archives

  • Basic photo editing using Adobe Photoshop (No prior experience necessary).

  • Preparing your image in Adobe Illustrator

  • Basic laser cutting skills

What you’ll take home:

  • 1 professional laser cutting of your jewellery design

  • Designs are laser cut up to a maximum size of 8cmx8cm

  • If your design is not ready by the end of the workshop, we will mail it to you.

Details:

  • Cost: $40.00 full price / $33.00 concession

  • Small class size – bookings are essential

  • Suitable for: ages 16+

  • Experience level: beginner workshop with no required knowledge
