Bower Reuse and Repair Centres offers a selection of Refurbishment courses for those who are interested in undertaking restoration and refurbishment projects around the home.
Our Furniture Repair and Restoration course will provide participants with basic skills and an understanding of timber furniture repair. The course covers tools and techniques, methodology, and ethical vs financial considerations. By the end of this workshop participants will have sufficient understanding and confidence to tackle simple projects on their own (with a little help from google).
Participants are encouraged to bring in refurb projects from home. The sessions will revolve around the breaking down and reassembly of one standard timber chair, with other exercises mixed in throughout the day. Our facilitators can advise you on how these techniques can be applied to your own projects.
This course will take place over 1 x 6-hour session. A finished product is not guaranteed, but you will be well on your way!
Upon completion of this short course you will:
Have knowledge of general safety practices in a workshop setting
Understand the principles, benefits and potential of refurbishment and upcycling
Understand how the skills you learn in this workshop can be applied to other projects
Have some basic knowledge of cleaning, painting and finishing techniques
Have guided, hands-on experience using basic tools
Have a huge sense of accomplishment!
This course is suitable for beginners (18 years and over) with no prior woodwork experience.
The Bower’s instructors are experienced at facilitating courses for individuals living with disability. Please let us know about any special requirements prior to enrolment so that our staff can prepare in advance.
