Commemorate 80 Years Since Victory in the Pacific

This year marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War in the Pacific, when war came to Australia’s door. 

In the lead-up to Victory in the Pacific Day on Friday 15 August, the Anzac Memorial invites you to take part in a week of special commemorative activities honouring the service and sacrifice of Australians on the front lines and the home front.

Experience history brought to life:

• A beacon from history: see an original Second World War searchlight - Monday 11 August to Friday 15 August, 9am-5pm

• Historians’ Talk: Air Raids, Searchlights, Celebrations: Sydney Home Front Stories, 1939-1945 - Friday 15 August, 4:00pm-4:45pm, bookings required

• Twilight Service: Honouring 80 Years Since Victory in the Pacific - Friday 15 August, from 5:00pm with the searchlight turned on at approximately 6:15pm

• Second World War Veteran Stories - Watch online
