Cantonese opera singing demonstration

The CYL Cantonese Opera Group was formed more than 30 years ago by Madam Dao Ping Wu, who is currently the Troupe Leader.

It is well known in Sydney and is a member of the Australian Federation of the Traditional Chinese Musicals and Operas.

The CYL Cantonese Opera Group members promote this magnificent and traditional art through shows, concerts, festivals, training and also charity performances. The Group attends to various art forms relating to the Cantonese Opera, including arranging music, writing lyrics, costume arrangement, make-up and stage props.

The Group performed in a lot of big events with Darling Harbour Authority, Sydney City Council, Market City and is always a dedicated supporter of the NSW Government Seniors’ Week programme and Chinese New Year celebration activities. The goal of CYL Cantonese Opera Group has never changed since its establishment – to promote Cantonese Opera and cultivate future stars in the field.

CYL Cantonese Opera Group has taken in over 100 members successively over the years, many of whom are among the top in the Cantonese Opera field in Sydney. This in turn brings positive outcomes to Chinese Youth League and the whole Chinese community.
