Tuesday 12 August from 6:30pm to 7:30pm
A timely guest during Australian Poetry Month, Martin Langford’s contribution to writing and poetry as an art form in Australia spans decades. Be present as he shares how this passion for the written word circles poetry from every angle - through his own practice, as an editor, essayist, critic, and through cultural development and stewardship.
Martin Langford has published eight books of poetry, the most recent of which is The Boy from the War Veterans’ Home (Puncher and Wattmann, 2022). He was a co-editor of Contemporary Australian Poetry (2016), edited Harbour City Poems: Sydney in Verse 1788-2008 and has reviewed and written articles about poetry for a range of journals, including Meanjin from 2011 - 2023.
He has had a long-term involvement in the organization of poetry events, directing three Australian Poetry Festivals (2001, 2004, 2006), and was a founding Board member of Australian Poetry Ltd (Chair 2019-2020). He has appeared by invitation at international festivals, including Trois Rivières, Medellin, Granada and Struga, and his work has been translated into French, Chinese, Italian, Spanish and Arabic.
“…equal to anything now being written in Australia,” (Brian Purcell, Five Bells)
“Often intellectually profound, the poetry remains assured and clear, a pleasure to read and re-read...There is no Australian poet more dedicated to his craft...” (Jan Owen)
