In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Wollemi Pine rediscovery, the Botanic Gardens of Sydney is offering something truly special. For the first time in nearly 20 years, six rare Wollemi Pines are up for auction.
This is your chance to bring home one of the rarest trees on Earth, the Wollemi Pine.
Often referred to as a "living fossil", the Wollemi Pine's roots stretch back over 200 million years, to a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Its rediscovery in 1994, hidden deep within a remote canyon in the Blue Mountains, was hailed as the botanical discovery of the century. Now, you have the extraordinary opportunity to own one of these iconic trees and take home a piece of living history.
Propagated two years ago directly from the original specimens, six Wollemi Pine will be available via auction. These trees were carefully cultivated by a specialised team of scientists, making them a unique addition to any garden or collection.
Why the Wollemi Pine continues to capture imaginations worldwide:
A Living Fossil: The Wollemi Pine is among the oldest tree species on Earth, with a lineage that spans over 200 million years.
Rare and Endangered: Fewer than 100 mature Wollemi Pines remain in the wild, all located in one secret site in New South Wales.
A Global Symbol of Conservation: Since its rediscovery, the Wollemi Pine has become a powerful symbol of plant conservation efforts worldwide.
Resilient Survivor: Thriving in extreme temperatures, from 5°C to 45°C, this extraordinary tree can grow up to 40 meters tall.
