Any drawing can animate!
With a focus on artistic approaches to animation and the wonderful imperfections of analogue mark-making, you’ll learn ways to bring the vitality of the drawn and painted line into the online sphere. Discover how to make loops of raw, hand-drawn animation on paper and choreograph them into digital timelines.
Damian Gascoigne guides you through two main making stages; first, creating short sequences of hand-drawn movement using pencil, brush and pen, then learning to organize and connect these sequences in digital space. Applying animation principles of timing and rhythm he teaches you to use simple, analogue forms to devise playful abstract and figurative movements.
Digital operations will be basic, using simple techniques such as scanning into Photoshop, cutting up and layering drawings, then creating cycles of action in After Effects. No experience in either program is necessary to see your own original, interesting drawings come alive in animation.
