Discover some of the inspiring stories of Australian women in military aviation from the Second World War and beyond for a special afternoon of talks.

From the legendary “Searchlight Girls” who defended New South Wales against enemy aircraft during the Second World War, to the Royal Australian Air Force’s women fighter pilots of today, the talks celebrate the incredible contributions of Australian women in military aviation. 

Hear three captivating presentations from leading experts and get up close to fascinating artefacts from the Anzac Memorial’s collection.

Brad Manera, Senior Curator and Historian of the Anzac Memorial, explores the crucial service of Australian female sailors, soldiers and aviators in the Second World War, highlighting the remarkable "Searchlight Girls" who operated vital equipment defending against enemy aircraft and who played a key role in Australia's air defence.

Dr. Catie Gilchrist shares the inspiring stories of three Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF) women, drawn from unique items in the Anzac Memorial's collection, revealing their diverse wartime experiences and contributions.

Squadron Leader Dr Anna Williams, co-author of the recently published Changing Altitudes: Stories of Australian Air Force Women, shares insights into this new book which captures the unique experiences of Air Force women who have served over the decades. Copies of _Changing Altitudes _will be available for purchase and signing.

This free event will be held on Wednesday, 5 March from 3.00pm to 5.00pm in the Memorial's Auditorium on Lower Ground level. Entry is via Liverpool Street.
