Our 5th annual exhibition pairing of an early-career local artist with a celebrated international artist presents Things That Are Real: Alvaro Barrington x Dean Cross.

Visitors are invited to encounter the exhibition as a ‘landscape painting show’ for the 21st Century. Cross has noted that landscape is “a perennial constant” in an artistic field decreed ‘dead’ and ‘reborn’ many times. Sharing an astute knowledge of Western art, the two artists expand beyond the conventions and limitations of the painting genre.

Through both solo and collaborative artworks, produced remotely and together in situ, Things That Are Real culminates from a live experiment and fluid exchange of methodologies and ideas, generating material conversations, architectural interventions and wry propositions.

Celebrating this major international collaboration on Saturday there will be an artist talk in the gallery from 5-6pm, before a Welcome to Country and launch from 6-8pm.

All are welcome, refreshments will be provided.

Things That Are Real runs from 3 June – 23 July. Cement Fondu is open Thursday – Sunday, 11-5.

Alvaro Barrington is represented by Sadie Coles HQ. Dean Cross is represented by STATION.
