The Self ‘n The Toys is the first solo exhibition by Sydney artist Peter Cerneaz for over 20 years. It has been specifically curated as a response by Peter to the Sydney Mardi Gras.

The Self is an ongoing series of work that explore human emotion and psychology as expressed in the human face. These paintings are done quickly and spontaneously often, as an opportunity to make use of an already loaded brush, rather than simply washing it and discarding the paint. These Paintings are then sometimes worked to further develop the portrait.

For the duration of the exhibition, Peter will be in the gallery offering to create a portrait of anyone who would like one made

The 2nd part of the exhibition; The Toys is a series of artworks that portray toys. As children and adults we often attribute meaning to our possessions beyond their superficial purpose. These possessions, these “toys”, represent a part of our personal story. They are an extension of our own self.

For the duration of the exhibition Peter encourages visitors to bring along their own toy to be painted by the artist.
