Sustainable School Commutes: a panel discussion and community conversation

Why we care about sustainable transportation:

Transportation is a major contributor to climate change, accounting for 15% of global CO2 emissions. With emissions rising steadily, addressing how we get around is crucial.

This panel discussion focuses on sustainable school commutes, a practical way to reduce our carbon footprint and promote healthy habits for young people. It will explore the potential of cycling and the importance of making eco-friendly transportation safe and accessible for everyone.

Meet our expert panelists:

  • Anthony Joseph: Co-founder, director, and software engineer at Bike Party, a tech startup connecting cyclists for group commutes. Anthony will discuss his proposal for a group bike ride to school initiative.

  • Sara Stace: President of Better Streets, Australia's leading advocate for improved streets. An urban planning expert with over 25 years of experience.

  • Fiona Campbell: Manager, Cycling Strategy at City of Sydney.

What to expect:

  • Opening remarks: Each panelist will provide a brief introduction (2-5 minutes) to their work and current projects.

  • Lively debate: The conversation will shift to a dynamic panel discussion exploring the future of sustainable school commutes in Sydney. This discussion aims to engage a "persuadable middle" audience who are interested in climate action.

  • Interactive elements: The event will feature live demonstrations and activations from brands like L & C and Powour.

Who should attend?

  • Parents and concerned citizens: This event is ideal for individuals concerned about climate change and interested in learning more about sustainable practices, particularly for families.

  • Climate activists: Parents and young people already engaged in climate action will find valuable insights and opportunities to get involved.

  • Businesses and decision-makers: Organizations working on climate solutions can gain exposure for their initiatives and connect with potential partners and supporters.

Join us for this engaging discussion and be part of the movement towards a greener future!

This event is part of Sydney Climate Action Week: a series of community-led events from all aspects of the climate action ecosystem running from 13-19 May 2024. This event is proudly supported by Greenhouse, City of Sydney, and Boundless.
