This May, join Museums of History NSW at ILUMINA Sydney for the Sydney Open Symposium, a day of talks and ideas exploring the future of housing.
This year’s theme, Home Truths, explores the past, present and future of housing across NSW, bringing together ideas, innovations, experiences and histories that shape our built environment. The symposium includes a full day of panel talks and presentations, with an optional house tour the following day.
On Saturday 23 May, hear industry experts and inspiring trailblazers unpack the past, present and future of NSW’s housing. Explore the evolution of the home and look ahead to what lies on the horizon, from the pioneering materials enabling groundbreaking designs to new models for density that are redefining suburbia.
Guest speakers include Tim Ross, comedian and a passionate advocate for architecture and design; Adam Haddow, the National President of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and a partner at the design firm SJB; Dr Elizabeth Farrelly, writer, critic, and host of The Sydneyist; Craig Kerslake, Wiradjuri Architect and Managing Director of Nguluway DesignInc; among many others.
On Sunday 24 May, explore inside stunning examples of residential architecture yourself by adding a private house tour to your ticket. Choose one home from a curated selection of exemplary residential designs, from small-footprint apartments and sustainable Passivhaus projects to medium-density designs and meticulous remediations of iconic pieces of architecture.
