When

Saturday 24 May from 10am to 4pm

All narrative writing (fiction and non-fiction) needs to combine the elements of both summary and scene, but sometimes it can be hard to get the balance just right. This course with Eleanor Limprecht looks at the differences between the two, the qualities of each, and when to employ them in your writing.

Scene is best used for when the writer wants to slow down time and linger in a moment, ‘show’ rather than ‘tell’ the important turning points or dramatic arcs. Summary condenses time, gives background information, and can be used to speed things up.

In this interactive workshop, we will look at examples from fiction and non-fiction and partake in writing exercises which allow us to practice these two important story elements.

This writing course, Story Fundamentals: Narrative Scene and Summary with Eleanor Limprecht, will be held at Writing NSW in Sydney.
