Duncan McNab History Talk - Juanita Nielsen

Where
44b Darlinghurst Rd
Potts Point NSW 2011
Dulcie's Kings Cross
When

Sunday 28 July 2024 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Each year we talk about Juanita Nielsen who took on the daunting collection of property developers and their political, business and police cronies, to save Victoria Street.

Juanita disappeared on the morning of the 4th of July 1975. She was last seen at the Carousel Club, where she had gone to discuss the club advertising in her newspaper NOW. What followed was an investigation hampered by red herrings, political and business intrigues, whiffs of corruption and plenty of theories. In 2021, the ABC aired their ill-fated documentary and podcast series.

In the wake of Juanita’s 1975 disappearance/murder two other brave women – Sallie Anne Huckstepp and Lynne Woodward – took on the most corrupt and deadly coppers in living memory and paid the highest price for that bravery.

Sallie Anne was murdered in Centennial Park and Lyn disappeared (believed murdered) after giving the first instalment of her evidence at the NSW Coroner’s Court in the Lanfranchi Inquest.

One of the prime suspects in both cases was Roger Rogerson.

Join Brandon and Duncan to talk about the these brave women whose work and sacrifice lifted the lid on corruption in the Cross and NSW.

Tickets are $25 and include a cocktail on arrival.
