Widely regarded as a painter of the nude, or an abstract painter, Richard Larter was also very influenced by his surroundings - his garden and landscapes, both urban and rural.
This exhibition spans sixty years. Not mere depictions of the visual world, the paintings invoke the smells of flowering trees in spring, the foreboding of distant bushfire smoke and the buzz of cicadas in the bright blue summer light. This exhibition coincides with his major exhibition at the Drill Hall Gallery at the Australian National University in Canberra.
