A fireside chat with Dona Sarkar and Stela Solar on responsible AI.

With the current boom of artificial intelligence innovation, there’s never been a more important time to understand its impacts. AI technology drives much of our everyday life, from our interaction with digital assistants, to the way we commute, to transforming the way we work. 

What happens if we don’t get it right, how can we uplift the practice of responsible AI, and what are the practical ways we can ensure we build AI tools responsibly?

Dona Sarkar and Stela Solar are leaders in the field of AI and will share their unique insights, what keeps them up at night, and their hopes for the future of AI.

About Dona Sarkar - City of Sydney Visiting Entrepreneur (USA)

By day, Dona leads the Accessibility tech program at Microsoft, her latest focus is using OpenAI inclusively in their work to make sure the thousands of products they ship are usable by people with disabilities, neurodiversity and mental health concerns. By night, Dona runs her own fashion business, Prima Dona Studios. She also coaches professionals on to build non-boring corporate careers, writes both fiction and non-fiction and – as of this year -- is also a restaurateur.

About Stela Solar

Stela Solar is the Director of Australia’s National AI Centre hosted by CSIRO, with the mission to accelerate positive AI adoption and innovation that benefits business and community. She has previously held roles at Microsoft including Global Director of AI Solution Sales, as well as roles across IT distributors and technology startups. Over the past 15 years, Stela has led business model transformations which have enabled organisations to capture new revenue opportunities and build competitive advantage with emerging technologies such as Cloud, IoT and AI. With a background in sustainability and creative industries, Stela thrives in ambiguity, change and purpose-led organisations. Outside of the technology arena, Stela enjoys the challenge of competitive sailing and tries to find time to play cello and piano.

This is the closing event for City of Sydney's Visiting Entrepreneur Program brought to you by Tech Council of Australia (TCA) in partnership with the National AI Centre's Responsible AI Network.

This event will be held at Harrison.ai, a cutting-edge med-tech company that is on a mission to urgently scale global healthcare capacity, using AI automation to elevate the care clinicians can provide.

The Visiting Entrepreneur Program is produced by the City of Sydney with partner organisations from the local startup ecosystem. The 2023 edition is kindly supported by Tech Central and the Greater Cities Commission.
