Recycle It Saturday: a free recycling drop-off event

Recycle It Saturday is a partnership between City of Sydney, Waverley and Woollahra councils.

We can only accept items from residents of these council areas. These maps show the City of Sydney, Waverley and Woollahra boundaries. Bring ID with proof of address in case you’re asked.

  • This is a drive-through event. We'll unpack your vehicle for you.

  • Separate your items into different boxes or bags so we can easily remove them from your vehicle. We recommend recyclable cardboard boxes.

  • People walking or cycling can access a separate drop-off area.

What you can bring:

Clothes, linen and hard toys in great condition suitable for second-hand sale

  • Including clean, great condition blankets, sheets, towels, handbags, shoes, hats. No carpets, rugs, curtains, cushions, electric blankets, doonas/quilts/duvets, pillows, underwear, socks, accessories.

  • Including working, great condition, medium-sized hard toys such as figurines, board games, blocks. No soft, broken or unclean toys. No oversized toys such as ride-on cars, play kitchen sets.

Electrical items and batteries (delete your data)

  • Household appliances: vacuum cleaners, microwaves, toasters, kettles, heaters, coffee machines, irons, pedestal fans

  • Entertainment and home office equipment: televisions, computers, laptops, keyboards, monitors, printers, stereos, gaming consoles, DVD players, DVDs, CDs, video recorders

  • Mobiles, landlines

  • Cords, chargers, headphones

  • Power tools (no gas or petrol-powered items)

  • Vapes and e-cigarettes (empty of liquid)

  • Batteries, including car batteries. We accept up to 3 car batteries per vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist. Tape battery terminals with non-conductive tape, like electrical tape.

Aluminium coffee pods

  • Bring in a tightly sealed plastic bag

Printer cartridges

  • Including inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges, toner bottles, fuser and drum units, fax rolls, print heads, waste hoppers/containers, collectors and kits

Light bulbs (including energy saving or fluorescent globes/tubes)

  • Wrap in newspaper and bring in a bag or box

Rigid polystyrene/styrofoam

  • From furniture or delivery packaging. We also accept food-grade polystyrene provided it’s clean. Keep pieces whole and remove tape/glue. No bendy/squishy items (foam wrap, foam sheets, packing peanuts, bean bag filling).

Household gas cylinders

  • Including nitrogen, SodaStream and LPG bottles

Large cardboard

  • Bring flattened

X-ray, MRI and CT scans/films

  • Remove from envelopes. Recycle envelopes and paper scans separately in your yellow lid bin.

Bicycles and scooters

  • All types, electric or not, in any condition. No motorbikes.

Small metal items (less than 10kg, made mostly of metal)

  • Kitchen items: pots, pans, baking trays, knives, cutlery, colanders, steel bowls

  • Handheld tools: hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, nail clippers, nails, nuts, bolts (bring small items in a container)

  • Dust bins and wire coat hangers – no plastic-coated hangers

  • Reusable drinking bottles and bottle caps

  • Keys and metal locks

  • Jewellery made from metal only, incl. gold and silver. No jewellery containing pearls, gems or other non-metal items.

Empty blister packs

  • These are the pill packets made of plastic and foil. We also accept empty, fully foil pill packets. Recycle any cardboard boxes separately in your yellow lid bin.

What you can’t bring:

  • Paint

  • Soft plastics

  • Business or construction waste

  • Hazardous waste, chemicals, pesticides

  • Smoke alarms, fire extinguishers

  • Whitegoods, mattresses, furniture
