Paul McIntyre was born in Melbourne and lives on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. He studied graphic design and advertising at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and worked as a sculptor for ten years before extending his artistic mediums to pursue a painting career in 2011. Since then, he has had select group and solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney.

My current body of work is an examination of the trees in my local environment. I have spent a lot of time in the leafy foreshores and forests on the Mornington Peninsula. Story telling through landscape painting is a subtle process. I have started to experiment with closer views of tangles of trees and undergrowth with the thought that this might be more immersive. I hope that the viewer might feel more a part of the landscape rather than a distant observer.

Art is incorporated into daily life. The morning walk at the local foreshore is an essential start of the day for me and my dog. As I make my way through the trees and along the beach, I’m actively seeking inspiration for painting.
