Launch into National Science Week 2025 with this fun makertime session for kids aged 8-12 years!

The theme for National Science Week is ‘Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language'. Over two fun‑filled hours, kids will engage with a range of fun activities that blend science, technology, art, and engineering.

Activities include:

  • Laser‑cut keyring: make a reflective moon keyring to take home

  • Sphero Bolt robots: explore block-coding to trace the planetary orbits of our solar system

  • Wind tube fun: explore the principles of aerodynamics

  • Ozobots in space: draw with code to create your own robot constellation

All materials and devices are supplied, including robotics kits, laptops, iPads, digital microscopes, Little Bits modules, and more. Facilitators will be on hand to guide each activity, so no prior experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and a sense of exploration.

Details:

  • Cost: $10 for each child (accompanying adults are free).

  • Bookings and class size: maximum 15 children – bookings essential.

  • Suitable for: 8 to 12 years and their parents or guardians.

  • Experience level: no prior making experience required.

More information:

We think carefully about the suggested age range for our activities and this workshop is only appropriate for children over the age of 8 years.

Bookings can be cancelled up to 7 days before the date of the workshop. Cancellations made within 7 days of the course starting will not be refunded. See terms and conditions

Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay in the makerspace to engage with the activity alongside their child. Parents and guardians not staying in the makerspace are required to stay in the library during the session.
