National Science Week in the parklands

Mind blowing science shows, hands-on robotics, a life-size roaming dinosaur, – it’s all part of the FREE family fun at 2 huge events to celebrate National Science Week with Greater Sydney Parklands.

More than 19,000 Sydneysiders are expected to join the fun at the much-loved Science in the Scrub at Western Sydney Parklands on Sunday 10 August and Science in the Swamp at Centennial Park on Sunday 17 August.

Whether it’s meeting a dinosaur, practicing bush survival skills, viewing the sun through a telescope or encountering our menagerie of Aussie animals, there’s an abundance of stalls, shows, hands-on activities and food vans to keep the whole family engaged.

Event highlights include:

• Meet a dinosaur – Get up close to crowd-favourite Ginger, the life-sized Australovenator dinosaur, who returns in 2025

• Creative Sciences - Witness a mind-blowing science show at both events for the first time, teaching physics, biology and space science with guaranteed explosive fun and astonishing experiments

• The Young Entomologist Lab - An interactive space where kids can use bug nets and catchers to collect and investigate invertebrates

• Indigenous Science – Participate in hands-on science experiments with the team from Macquarie University’s National Indigenous Science Education Program (only at Science in the Scrub)

• The UNSW SciFest Village– a huge new addition to Science in the Swamp this year, featuring more than 30 scientists and 10 hands-on science stalls including slime, optical illusions, fitness challenges, 3D anatomy models, forensics, a spider show and a scavenger hunt.
