Agnès Varda, born in Belgium and raised in France, had a pioneering career in experimental cinema. An Oscar nominee at the age of 89, she had a huge career in narrative features and documentaries. She was a self-taught director and at the very dawn of the French New Wave.
CJ Johnson is a film critic and commentator with ABC Radio, including Mornings with Sarah Macdonald, Evenings with Indira Naidoo and Nightlife with Suzanne Hill. He is the president of the Film Critics Circle of Australia, head lecturer in screen storytelling and cinema studies at Sydney Film School, and a voter for the Golden Globes. In 2023, he presented the Art of cinema lecture series at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
