When

Sunday 13 April from 9:30am to 12pm

Learn how to illustrate a watery fairy tale with artist, author and Australian Fairy Tale Society member Erin-Claire Barrow.

The theme of this year's Australian Fairy Tale Conference is Over Water, Under Water: Magical Waters of Fairy Tales, which celebrates Sydney as a place where ocean, harbour and rivers meet – as passages, barriers and sources of life. This art workshop, located on the beautiful Cooks River, will focus on watery imagery, and enchanted ocean and river-based fairy tales and beings.

We love the magic of fairy tales – the enchantment of stories rich in imagery and layers of meanings – and we love the greater magic of creativity. Discover the power of both in this art workshop for all levels led by the delightful and multi-talented Erin-Claire, a whimsical illustrator who uses digital art, ink and watercolours to explore, retell and subvert traditional fairy tales and folklore.

All materials will be supplied, so connect with your inner artist and join us up the stairs of the River Canoe Club, on the banks of the beautiful Cooks River, just across the road from Tempe Train Station. There will be a short break midway for refreshments (provided), then you're welcome to join us for lunch afterwards to continue the conversation with like-minded people.

Erin-Claire will use watercolours, and watercolours and pencils as well as paper etc will be supplied. If you have a preferred medium you’re welcome to bring your own (although there will be limited space to set up, and some materials such as oil paints or chalk pastels may not be appropriate around a group). Any questions please email afts.conference@gmail.com.

The Australian Fairy Tale Society aims to investigate and express fairy tales from an Australian perspective, through local Fairy Tale Rings, ezines, storytelling concerts and our annual conferences. On 14-15 June this year we will be holding the Over Water, Under Water, Magical Waters of Fairy Tales conference in Little Bay. This art workshop is just the beginning of our opportunities to connect and celebrate.

* The Australian Fairy Tale Society is for grown-ups, and this workshop is for ages 14-100
