More than a decade since his last solo exhibition in Sydney, Bradley Eastman (Beastman) presents a series of vibrant new paintings titled ‘Living Structures’, paying homage to the city and exploring the symbiotic relationship between human life and the built environment.
At the heart of Eastman’s work lies a diligent process, where gradients of colour, measurement and grid compositions intersect to construct balanced visual narratives infused with human energy and spirit.
Created primarily with aerosol paint, a delicate medium that demands precision and confidence, each painting is patiently layered with differentiated substructures and repetitive patterns that build upon one another to form a harmonious whole. This is a process honed over many years, where the artworks fabricate themselves within the parameters set by the artist’s own visual language.
Despite meticulous planning and execution, there’s an inherent dynamism and vitality emanating from the paintings, a testament to the artist’s passion and dedication to his constantly evolving and distinctive body of artwork. Eyes are strategically integrated into the compositions, prompting us to view the built environment not just as a collection of man-made structures, but as a living, breathing entity intrinsically intertwined with the human experience. Additionally, the paintings feature inevitable imperfections that affirm the human touch; the artist's embrace of these flaws acknowledges the inherent impossibility of attaining perfection in our creations.
