Throughout history, rebels, outlaws and nonconformists have challenged the status quo, reshaping society and inspiring artists across every medium.
In this four-part lecture series explore how art, photography, fashion and film have represented those who defy convention—from powerful women who refused prescribed roles to radical photographers, style revolutionaries and infamous celebrity outlaws. Uncover how acts of resistance, transgression and reinvention continue to influence culture and the stories we tell about power, identity and change.
Lectures in this series will be presented by Dr Jessica Priebe, art historian and lecturer at the National Art School Sydney; journalist and photographer Tony Maniaty; former senior curator at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences Roger Leong; and film critic and commentator CJ Johnson.
Each lecture will be held on Fridays and repeated on Saturdays in the Domain Theatre. Each session includes a 15-minute intermission during which tea and coffee will be provided in the Domain Theatre foyer.
