This class will introduce you to materials and techniques for using charcoal to create textures and depth to bring your drawings to life. You will be taken through some exercises that will give you the tools to create future works. Charcoal is a beautiful rich medium that is able to be transformed into powerful subject matter
Materials List
Willow charcoal sticks of medium and large thickness. (not small, thin sticks)
Compressed charcoal sticks (medium and soft)
5 sheets of A1 cartridge paper 200 gsm (jas art is best)
2 charcoal pencils (soft and medium)
Staredler hard eraser
Fixative spray
Board clips
Scissors
Ruler
About Andrew Antoniou
Andrew Antoniou has nearly 50 years of teaching experience, specializing in drawing at all the major art institutions in New South Wales, including the National Art School (NAS), the College of Fine Arts (COFA), the Canberra School of Art at ANU, and the University of Wollongong. His teaching practice extends to several of Sydney’s renowned arts centers, such as Hazelnut Willoughby, Waverley Woollahra, and Art Est. In addition to his extensive teaching career, Andrew has exhibited widely with Australian Galleries in both Sydney and Melbourne, as well as with Grainger Gallery in the ACT.
