Inspire: Ken Hutt, Paragliding big mountains

When

Tuesday 5 August from 6pm to 9pm

Cost

Adult: $10Child: Free

Join us to hear Ken Hutt, veteran adventurer, share stories of a lifetime of high endeavour, most notably his recent multi-modal expeditions to access, climb and fly from big remote mountains to raise funds for humanitarian causes (currently Rotary’s push to finally eradicate polio).

Ken will speak about numerous expeditions such as climbing, and flying his paraglider from, near the summit of Cho Oyu, (the worlds’ 6th highest mountain) via Tibet, Lobuche Peak in Nepal and an attempt to do the same on Everest.

He will also tell the tale of a circumnavigation of Tasmania in a yacht from Sydney, with all sorts of adventures along the way, including launching a paraglider from the remote Mount Rugby in Tasmania’s south west wilderness, and landing right next to the yacht.

Ken is a very thoughtful, relatable speaker and has some extremely dramatic photos and videos to bring us into the action of his inspiring adventures.

Ken Hutt is, amongst other things, a 65 year old adventurer, humanitarian, bluewater sailor, senior deputy captain with the RFS, mountaineer, emergency responder and senior paraglider pilot.

Most of his working life was with the NSW Water Police and Police Rescue Squad. In the last few years he has climbed mountains in Pakistan, Patagonia, Africa, New Zealand, Nepal and Tibet. Ken is currently the president of his local Rural Fire Service brigade and training officer and is very active in emergency response.

As a Rotarian Ken has a deep social conscience and raises funds for the worldwide eradication of polio (mainly through the documentary film Fly from Everest), in collaboration with the Gates foundation which matches all the funds he raises. There will be no pressure to donate to this cause at this event but if you feel like contributing there will be an opportunity to do so by QR code.

The Inspire Adventure Series is a monthly event designed to ignite your passion for the outdoors through captivating presentations by adventurers who share their experiences via multimedia slideshows. Beyond the presentation and Q&A session, there's an opportunity to connect with like-minded people, exchange ideas, and perhaps even find a partner for your next adventure.

We encourage you to bring along children and teenagers – we’d love to inspire the next generation of adventurers too. Join us for an evening of adventure, storytelling, and community.
