How to read a photograph

When

Sunday 21 November 2021 from 2pm to 3pm

In today’s complex post-truth world it’s even more important than ever before to get to the heart of an issue and understand the meaning behind an image.

Marco will encourage you to get to the bottom of the intent behind photographs. He will show you by analysing, deconstructing and examining them to understand whether they’re manipulated and if so why, and how to get your own message across in your photography.

Marco Bok is an established fine art photographer working in the documentary genre. He has been documenting street life and urban scenes for over thirty years. Marco holds degrees in Photo-media and sociology and has been teaching photo-media for more than 25 years. He has exhibited extensively, including at Elizabeth St Gallery, Sydney.

Shot in 2006, Marco’s series Untitled documents a group of teen Goths that often gathered around Town Hall station and Hyde Park. The group came from around Sydney to share common interests in music and entertainment. The images reveal an often untold story of Sydney’s city and youth culture.

Marco has documented his life, and his immediate surroundings and his images have formed an extensive archive of cultural life in inner-city Sydney.
