From Harbour to Harbour 2 is an extraordinary musical event that unites two distinct and rich cultures through the powerful language of music.

This unique concert brings together legendary musicians: Ney-anbān master Mohsen Sharifian from southern Iran and iconic Australian figures William Barton and his mother, Aunty Delmae Barton. The performance creates a cross-cultural bridge, exploring the deep-rooted musical traditions of Iran and Australia, blending ancient sounds, rhythms, and stories from both sides of the world.

Mohsen Sharifian is a virtuoso of the Ney-anbān, a traditional Iranian wind instrument that carries the soulful sounds of southern Iran, particularly from the coastal regions of Bushehr. Known for his mastery and unique approach to Iranian music, Sharifian’s work is celebrated for bringing the emotive depth of his heritage to the global stage. His music reflects the mystical and ancient traditions of Iran, often drawing from the deep well of Persian folklore and regional musical styles.

William Barton, one of Australia’s most respected musicians, is a master of the didgeridoo, an instrument that has been used by Aboriginal Australians for over 40,000 years. His sound is a vital and powerful expression of his heritage, connecting the ancient stories of his people with the modern world. Barton’s music is not just about rhythm, but a spiritual connection to the land, offering a powerful and deep experience for audiences.

Aunty Delmae Barton, William’s aunt, is a revered figure in the Aboriginal community and a highly respected educator and cultural leader. She is known for her dedication to preserving and sharing the stories, music, and traditions of Aboriginal Australians. Her presence in this performance is integral, adding a layer of wisdom, storytelling, and a sense of cultural continuity to the collaboration.

The From Harbour to Harbour 2 concert is more than just a musical performance, it’s a celebration of the shared history and spirit of these two regions. The concept behind the event is to bring together two ancient and distinct cultures through music, showing how both Iranian and Aboriginal Australian traditions hold profound wisdom and connection to the earth, people, and the cosmos. This collaboration provides an unforgettable opportunity for audiences to experience the deep-rooted musical legacies of Iran and Australia in a way that honours the past and paves the way for a shared future.
