Gay Clay is a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space for queer-identifying folks and allies who want to learn basic ceramics skills. By coming together to work with clay, we practice embodiment and self-care within a community – important skills which anchor us in today's fast paced world.

This workshop will focus on nerikomi – a Japanese technique that involves stacking coloured blocks of clay and slicing them to reveal a pattern. We inlay these pieces onto clay slabs and make them into functional objects of our choosing

Gay Clay is taught by Annie Parnell, a graduate of the Australian National University School of Art and Design (Bachelor of Visual Arts, Honours) in the Ceramics and the Sculpture and Spatial Practise Workshops. Their work is held in private collections both locally and internationally, and they have exhibited all the way from Munich to Petersham..

At the end of the workshop your pieces will dry out and then be fired and clear glazed by Annie. This means they’ll be functional pieces of pottery when you come to collect them. You will be able to come and collect them four weeks after your workshop.
