Fresh perspectives: a conversation on civic engagement

When
  • Thursday 5 September 2024 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Want to be part of future change but not sure how to go about it? Come along to learn about ways to influence community life, and how government decisions impact you.

Join our panel of young change makers as we cover everything from voting and signing petitions to joining boycotts or talking to your MP.

Our speakers will explore the intersection of democracy and young Australians, focusing on reshaping community involvement for Gen Z.

As our own local government elections approach, it’s so important that young people feel informed to participate in decision making activities, confident to share spaces which they’ve historically been excluded from.

Speakers:

Grace Vegesana: (she/they) National Director, Australian Youth Climate Coalition. Co-founder of People of Colour Climate Network.

Hannah Ferguson: (she/her) Co-founder and CEO of Cheek Media Co., author of Bite Back.

Konrad Michalski: (he/him) Economics teacher turned social media personality and podcaster focused on making politics accessible and engaging to everyday Australians.

Kupakwashe Matangira: (she/her) Youth empowerment activist and social entrepreneur, finalist for NSW Young Woman of the Year 2024.

Hosted and moderated by Heather McNab (she/her), Youth Media Lead at the Foundation for Young Australians, journalist and political media advisor.

Presented by the City of Sydney as part of the Emerging Civic Leaders Program.

We aim to deliver inclusive and accessible events and activities. If you have any particular access or communication needs, don't hesitate to get in touch with Alex Blair on 0487 677 231 or email ablair@cityofsydney.nsw.go.au
