Opening Night

Fallen Angels presents new work by the artist, therapist and academic Paul Rhodes. This hauntingly autoethnographic exhibition examines the ego-dystonic dynamics that have marred psychology and the arts alike.

Echoing the legacy of Art Brut, a movement conceived in psychiatric hospitals with its 'genius’ patients, mad mystics and prophetic spiritualists, Fallen Angels is a fever dream of a bygone era. Carnal and soaked with manic energy, Rhodes' work documents the psyche in crisis. Mapping topographies of hellscapes both internal and external, real and imagined that enmesh to create liminal spaces pulsing with the desperate plea, where can healing be found?

Welcome to Country with Professor John Gilroy. Featuring talks by specialist in existentialism and death-anxiety Professor Ross Menzies and readings by poet, consumer/ex-patient/survivor and peer educator Alise Blayney.
