Join us for an extraordinary evening with Richard Ovenden OBE, Bodley's Librarian at Oxford University, as he explores the deliberate destruction of knowledge throughout history and its urgent relevance today.

Drawing from his acclaimed book Burning the Books: A History of Knowledge Under Attack, Richard will discuss how libraries, librarians, and archivists bear the profound responsibility of preserving and transparently sharing information, issues that resonate intimately with our own institution's 175-year commitment to scholarship and discovery.

In conversation with Associate Professor Sophie Gee, Vice-Chancellor Fellow and co-host of the popular literary podcast The Secret Life of Books, this dynamic event will examine the critical role of libraries and archives in safeguarding knowledge for future generations.

This free event is part of the University's 175th Anniversary celebrations alongside the Library, and is proudly sponsored by the Andersen Family Bequest.
