Drawing Studies Workshop with Ashley Frost

This series of two weekend workshops uses all available methods including drawings, quick studies, thumbnail sketches based on the imagined, the real and photography.

The course starts with the development of rigorous drawings and studies for the first week, followed by execution of a drawing inspired painting for the second week.

This interconnected multidisciplinary approach aims to expand one's creative vocabulary to help integrate compositional ideas into your painting practice.

Students will gain skills in creating their own methodology and practice with the clear aim to develop drawings and studies that inform and inspire their painting practice.

Considerations such as composition, figure ground relationships, dynamic movement and tonal design will be explored in detail through a series of practical exercises.

The work developed in week 1 will then be carried over and applied to a feature painting activity in the second week.
