On Saturday 22 March, 2-4pm The Overcomers Place is hosting an educational event at the Art Gallery of NSW: 'Dopamine, Choices and Addictions'.
The event brings together a wealth of knowledge from leading mental health specialists across the field of addiction and associated behaviours, including Dr Anastasia Hronis, author of The Dopamine Brain, Dr Mike Atherton, consultant psychiatrist at The Sydney Clinic and Penny Wilkinson, therapist, founder and volunteer CEO of TOP.
Fact: In Australia, one person dies every 90 minutes on average from alcohol-attributed disease (NDRI, 2018).
Fact: Deciding or considering right now could be the difference between life and death.
Fact: Substance-related and addictive disorders are mental health conditions (DSM-5-TR).
Fact: Addiction is not a lifestyle choice.
The Overcomers Place (TOP), established in 2020 and based in Sydney, is an all-addictions treatment centre that runs free daily groups Monday to Friday to help individuals recovering from any addiction, in person, online – five days a week!
Through group-based therapy, where change occurs bit by bit, TOP groups provide community, care, connection, skills and support for people to change addictive behaviours, towards recovery. All our therapists have lived experience and are trained specifically to work across addiction services and counselling.
Waiting around and hoping things will ‘get better’ is rarely the solution. Taking the first step towards addiction recovery is never going to be easy, but we promise… it’s worth it. Recovery begins with community, and no matter where you're at today, TOP is for you.
Ready to take back control of your life? We're here for you.
