Saturday 13 December from 12pm to 4pm
The Gujaga Foundation and the La Perouse Aboriginal community are joining the Chau Chak Wing Museum to mark the 175th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Sydney with a special day celebrating culture and community.
Come and learn from Traditional Owners about the rich cultural history of Coastal Sydney and the strength of their continuing cultural traditions.
This event will celebrate the collaboration of community and university in recent years with the University of Sydney being entrusted with the temporary care of the Gweagal spears following their permanent repatriation from the Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, United Kingdom to the La Perouse Aboriginal community.
Join us to view the Gweagal spears one more time at the Chau Chak Wing Museum before they make their way to their permanent home in Gundal (Kurnell), and help welcome a new spear made by Uncle Rod Mason to be added to the collection of the Chau Chak Wing Museum, ensuring the story of the spears and spear-making will be told at the University of Sydney for generations to come.
Throughout the afternoon we will be hosting a series of activities and events in and around the museum, commencing with a special performance by the Gamay Dancers.
