Where
Waverley Library
Waverley Library
Ron Lander Centre, 32-48 Denison Street, Bondi Junction NSW 2022
When

Thursday 14 November 2024 from 6:30pm to 8pm

Join University of Sydney academic Dr Martijn Boersma to lift the lid on the world of technology supply chains, and see what happens in the places where the sleek, glittering devices that we use every day get made.

From cobalt mining in Congo to Foxconn factories in China, and from child labour to slave labour, ethical, environmental and human rights questions arise at almost every stage of the production process for digital technology. While today's tech giants have amassed spectacular corporate fortunes, what price is being paid for this success, and are there any alternatives?

Dr Martijn Boersma, an associate professor at the University of Sydney Business School and an expert in modern slavery and corporate supply chains, is better placed than anyone to examine these issues. Join us for an eye-opening and profoundly thought-provoking exploration of just what goes into making the technology that we depend upon every day, followed by audience Q&A.
