Wednesdays, 6:30pm to 7:30pm Wednesday 22 October 2025 to Wednesday 3 December 2025

Creating great lyrics is not just a matter of coming up with good ideas—it’s knowing how to build on those ideas, and turn them into finished songs—songs that communicate your unique perspective, and also communicate to a wider audience.

As the masters say, inspiration only matters if you know what to do with it. This course is all about equipping you with the practical tools and concepts for taking your inspiration and confidently turning it into your best song lyrics.

Creating Great Lyrics is a 6-module immersive online course, that shows you how to find and generate compelling lyric ideas, regardless of how inspired you feel on any given day

  • Take your inspiration and develop it, expand it, and explore the possibilities for where an initial idea can go

  • Structure your ideas into a strong song form

  • Access techniques and methods for finishing your songs, every time

 What you’ll learn:

Exercises and daily drills for honing the craft of lyrical language

  • How to find and develop original metaphors, and write your best lyrics

  • How to identify the title of your song as a method for anchoring your idea

  • Create a variety of song maps that will help you finish your songs every time

  • Choose the right song form for your song idea, through listening and analysis of a variety of conventional and unconventional song forms

  • How to write a great Chorus

  • How to write Verses that grow in emotion and impact through development

  • The difference between different song sections, and strategies for writing each

You’ll learn and practice the tools and concepts through:

  • individual feedback on your weekly project, and a weekly live coaching session with your peers

  • 2.5 hours premium video content

  • 25 practical exercises

  • 6 discussions and critical analysis

  • 6 weekly projects

  • Over 60 song examples and playlists of contemporary and timeless songs

  • Links and PDFs of extra resources to take your learning further

 Who is this course for?

This course is for songwriters of any level who:

  • Have great ideas but struggle to turn them into full songs

  • Have lots of half-written songs you are eager to finish

  • Feel like all your songs sound the same

  • Want tools and techniques for creating a regular writing habit

  • Want to go beyond cliches, and write original, fresh lyrics

  • Want their songs to reach a broader audience of listeners

  • Want to be able to write creative lyrics without relying on inspiration
