Mrs Dalloway is one of Woolf's best known works.

The beginning is pedestrian, simple. An upper class woman spends a day preparing for a party, at some time during the 1920s in London. All the action takes place in one day. The importance of the novel is its 'stream-of-consciousness' writing, arguably producing a new genre of fiction. Add in mental illness, psychological insight, and a woman's same-sex attraction. All in 224 pages.

Copies are easily available through local libraries, bookshops and free Kindle compatible version. A professionally read audio version is on YouTube.
