“The seeds for the first iteration of Chrome City must have been germinated whilst I was on residency in Los Angeles in 2017/18. It started as a comparison between the city of LA and my home city of Sydney and led me to think that both cities shared much in common. Brash, sun-baked coastal cities, grimed over with a heavy dose of post-industrial collateral.

“Do artists from these two cities reflect anything about the place they inhabit, and did I know a group of artists who might reflect aspects of Sydney worthy of exhibiting in Los Angeles? Opening in May 2022 in a former aviation industry building in Downtown LA, under the dark shadow of covid, it was perhaps a bold move. Over 20 works by these 6 artists and myself, but we went ahead anyway.

“Cut to 2025, an opportunity to show in Sydney all together is too good to miss. A reprise rather than a re-run, Chrome City II will show new work from these bold and smart artists at home.”
