Tuesday 5 December 2023 from 7pm to 8:30pm

This talk is intended for individuals who want to free their minds from stress and anxiety. It will also be valuable for counsellors and individuals who support others in managing stress and anxiety as it discusses the mental process involved in building up stress and how it can be reversed for better outcomes.

The technique discussed in this talk has been practised for many years at Jethavanarama Buddhist Monastery in Sri Lanka and has been proven effective by thousands of people who have applied it to their lives.

Buddhist therapy focuses on identifying the root cause of mental health issues. The science behind the mind is complex, but Buddhist teachings explain it in detail, allowing us to understand the problem at its heart before trying to solve it. This talk aims to shed light on the cause-and-effect nature of the mind’s process and guide individuals to identify the underlying causes of stress and anxiety.

Mental stress is a complex reaction that occurs when an individual perceives a situation as threatening, overwhelming, or beyond their ability to cope. It can manifest as feelings of anxiety, tension, worry, or a sense of being overwhelmed. Prolonged or chronic stress can lead to a range of physical and mental health issues. In Australia, anxiety is the most common mental health condition, affecting nearly 3 million people and 1 in 4 people at some stage in their life. While there is medication available that can alleviate physical health issues arising from anxiety or stress, it is important to recognize this alone cannot completely eradicate the main cause. It can only help manage the symptoms. Similarly, there are many techniques available for managing stress, yet, at the same time, these techniques don’t provide a long- term solution, directed at the core of the problem.
