Warren Fahey takes you on a wild ride through the music business. Starting with his legendary Folkways Music store and fiercely independent Larrikin Record label, he shares behind-the-scenes stories of Sydney's wildest events.

In his memoir Warren discusses the adventures that led him deep into the Australian bush to record folklore and old songs, his worldwide performances, as well as diving into seedy side of Sydney with tales from music scene's notorious underground parties. This revealing, funny, and nostalgic memoir celebrates the true Australian larrikin spirit.

About Warren Fahey

You may recognise Warren from ABC radio where he has been a prominent voice for over 55 years. Starting in 1968, he began reviewing books on music and folklore and presented Australia’s first radio series on world music. He scripted major series like The Australian Legend, While the Billy Boils, and The Songs That Made Australia.

When ABCFM launched Warren became a regular on Sunday Folk. ABC Music and ABC Books went on to release his extensive catalogue of records and books. For the past 25 years, he has been a 'talking head' - discussing everything from the history of the bush biscuit to Australian Slanguage, convict stories and maritime mysteries.

Warren opened the legendary Folkways Music store in 1973, famous for its specialist catalogue of recordings, music books and instruments. In 1974 Warren established the independent Larrikin Record label which he eventually sold to Festival Records in 1995.

Warren went on to become Deputy MD of Festival Mushroom Group. He has received a raft of awards including:

  • The Australasian Sound Recordings Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015

  • The Prime Minister's Centenary Medal

  • The Don Banks Music Award in 2010 which is Australia's highest award for lifetime achievement in music.
