In this retrospective exhibition, Ann Theresa Gregory engages in an age-old custom of reflecting on art created thus far, and setting potential goals for a new, rebirthed life. To complement 48 of her own works, Ann invites 12 treasured friends to share their own recollections and to suggest how we might re-invent our futures. Adopting many mediums —from drawing and pastels, through print, paint, poetry and sculpture — the artists explore not only personal but also collective and global pasts, present and futures.

In some parts of the world, turning 60, is not so much seen as getting older but considered our rebirth, our chance to start over again — known as Kanreki in Japan, Hwangap in Korea; and Jiazi in China. On turning 60, we are back at our original Chinese birth zodiac, having gone through the cycle a total of five times. It’s a return (kan) of the calendar (reki).
